Frog logic and horses
Did you know that if a frog keeps
its mouth open for too long...
...it will suffocate!
Strange, isn't it?
You know what's just as strange?
Trying to solve horse problems using logic
and then it backfires on you.
Here's an example.
If you've ever been on a horse that
reared there's a tendency to pull back on
the reins as he rears. Why? I don't know.
But pulling back on the reins is
rattlesnake dangerous because you can actually
pull the horse over on top of you.
People that's happened to didn't know
any better - they did what "seemed" logical.
If your ever rears, lean forward and
give him loose reins.
The next thing to do is drive him
forward with energy just as his feet touch
the ground. He'll find it dang hard to
rear again as he's moving.
Then while he moves you'll want to
quickly double him. (Doubling is explained
in the Horse Problem Solving manual).
A horse has to be at a near stop (or
complete) stop to rear. So the answer is to
keep him moving so he can't.
Honestly, I've heard horror stories
of people hitting their horse over the head
with a 2 x 4 or beer bottles to try to get
'em to stop.
As you've likely guessed...that ain't
exactly good idea. It's dangerous to your
horse, it won't stop rearing, and it will
create animosity between the horse and rider.
See you manana.
Sincerely,
Andy Curry
