Horse Trainer blunders and bloopers
The Horse Training Blunder
Of The Barsaleux Blooper
Here's a crazy horse story of American
ingenuity you won't believe.
A man named Joseph Barsaleux invented
a car designed "NOT" to spook horses.
Ever hear of such a thing?
You see, when cars first appeared they
were not reliable. So people still trusted
the horsedrawn vehicles.
And because these cars spooked horses
as they passed, they were considered...
...a pain in backside. ;)
So,...this Barsaleux fella rushes in
with a solution. He built a car that looks
like a carriage with...
...a full-size replica of
a horse in the front!
The replica horse camouflaged a fifth
wheel used for steering and power. Plus, the
driver actually steered using a brace and bit
attached to the fake horse's mouth.
Is that the craziest thing you ever
heard?
Here's an inventor trying to solve the
horse owner's spooking problem when...really...it's
the horse owner's responsibility.
Even back then, most horse owners
didn't know how to shrink the "spook" in their
horse.
Just like today, it's a matter or learning
what to do. It's not rocket science. It's not
grueling. You don't have to be an expert.
Nope.
You just gotta know how to do it.
While I don't have time to describe the
process because it's lengthy, I can' give you
an overview.
First, you begin by understanding the
horse's instincts like why he does what he does.
So just like a red-hot pan triggers instant
withdraw of our hand from injury, a horse reacts
with fear to certain objects.
Which objects?
That's the detective work "YOU" have to do
to know the answer.
By knowing what to look for, you can tell
what objects spook a horse. Some objects have a
universal spook like cars for instance. If you're
riding a horse...almost any horse...it's a safe
bet he's gonna be frightened by it.
But what frightens one horse does not always
frighten another. That's why you play detective
and uncover what frightens your horse.
When first learning this horse thing, I see
many horse owners train with their intuition.
Intuition is valuable to use but unless
you understand the horse from their shoes, intuition
often teaches the horse the wrong thing.
Intuition comes from having some background
knowledge of your subject. Without that knowledge,
you're going one step forward and two back.
A common mindset I see people use is "what
works on a dog must work on a horse because they
both are animals and have four legs."
Don't laugh. It happens all the time.
If you want your dog to go outside but he
won't cooperate, you can usually force him out by
pushing him towards the door.
Try pushing a horse and he'll push back.
Not only that, you'll trigger his internal alarm
system.
Then he'll start associating you with dis-
pleasure - which is one of the reasons horses are
hard to catch.
Oh...I could go on and on - but you get the
idea.
As I always say, take time to learn about
this horse thing. You can't imagine the glorious
feeling of accomplishment it gives you.
Plus, you'll be one of the respected few
who have horse sense. Believe me, not everyone
does.
Doesn't matter what you use to learn the
craft. My stuff. Someone else's. You'll almost
always learn something valuable.
I urge you to learn about horses spooking.
Tain't fun to be on a horse that's out of control
because he's frightened. But if you knew what to
do, it'd be more of a glitch in the road than a
impass.
Jesse Beery, the outrageously effective and
famous trainer from the late 1800's, created a
method of overcoming spooking. It's a killer tech-
nique.
If you don't own a copy of his methods, you
might want to take a peek at it. Click here:

Otherwise, find something to learn from be-
cause spooking can lead to dangerous problems and
I don't want you getting hurt.
See you manana.
Sincerely,
Andy Curry
